This intelligence is too hard to ignore, and while not the main character in th e novel, Jim steals the show, putting Twains slavery protest on center stage. Because of his insistence on equality and the portrayal of a black slave as more than a piece of meat, to be bought and sold, Twain has influenced writers for the past hundred years.
